Our Commitment to Child Safety

At Kensington Colts Basketball, the safety and wellbeing of every child and young person is our highest priority.

We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where players feel welcome, respected and confident participating in basketball.

We have zero tolerance for child abuse, harm, discrimination or inappropriate behaviour.

A Child Safe Club

Kensington Colts complies with Victoria’s 11 Child Safe Standards, which require organisations working with children to maintain policies, procedures and practices that prevent and respond to abuse and harm. (⁠CCYP)

Our approach includes:

  • Listening to children and supporting them to have a voice.
  • Creating culturally safe and inclusive environments.
  • Promoting equity and respecting diversity.
  • Involving families and our community in child safety.
  • Carefully screening and supporting coaches, volunteers and committee members.
  • Requiring relevant volunteers to hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • Maintaining clear processes for raising and responding to concerns.
  • Regularly reviewing and improving our child safety practices.

Reporting a Concern

We encourage players, parents, coaches and volunteers to speak up if they see, hear or experience anything that makes them feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

Concerns can be raised with your coach, team manager, age group coordinator or the club’s Child Safety Officer.

Everyone Has a Role to Play

Creating a child safe club is a shared responsibility.

We ask all players, families, coaches, volunteers and committee members to help us maintain an environment where children feel safe, supported and able to enjoy basketball.
