Coaching
Help Shape the Next Generation of Colts
Our club simply wouldn’t exist without our volunteer coaches.
Every week, our coaches help hundreds of young players learn new skills, build confidence, make friends and develop a lifelong love of basketball. Whether you’ve played basketball for years or you’re simply a parent wanting to help your child’s team, we’d love to welcome you to our coaching team.
Interested in coaching?
We’d love to hear from you.
Why Coach with the Colts?
Coaching is one of the most rewarding ways to get involved in junior sport.
As a Colts coach you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Make a positive difference in young people’s lives.
- Help players develop confidence, teamwork and resilience.
- Be part of a welcoming and supportive coaching community.
- Continue developing your own basketball knowledge and leadership skills.
You Don’t Need Coaching Experience
Many of our coaches started because their child needed a coach.
If you’re enthusiastic, reliable and willing to learn, we’ll help you every step of the way.
We provide support, mentoring and resources to help you grow as a coach, regardless of your previous basketball experience.
We Support Our Coaches
We’re committed to helping our coaches succeed.
As a Colts coach you’ll have access to:
- Coach education and development opportunities.
- Mentoring from experienced coaches.
- Coaching resources and practice ideas.
- A free Nike coaching apparel pack.
- Ongoing support from the club throughout the season.
Coach Requirements
To help provide a safe and positive environment for our players, all Colts coaches are required to:
- Hold a valid Working with Children Check.
- Complete an introduction to coach Basketball Australia course (online).
- Support the club’s Child Safety and Member Protection policies.
- Represent the Colts with professionalism, respect and sportsmanship.
- Wear Colts coaching apparel when coaching or representing the club.
We’ll guide you through these requirements when you join our coaching team.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need basketball experience?
No. While basketball knowledge is helpful, enthusiasm, communication and a positive attitude are just as important. We’ll support you as you develop your coaching skills.
What age group would I coach?
Many parents coach their own child’s team, but there are opportunities across all age groups depending on your interests and experience.
How much time is involved?
Most coaches attend one training session during the week and coach one game on Saturdays.
Will the club help me?
Absolutely. Coaching is a team effort and you’ll always have support from fellow coaches, coordinators and the club.
