We’re a community basketball club providing fun, inclusive basketball for boys and girls aged 6 to 20. Whether your goal is to make new friends, learn the game or develop your skills, there’s a place for everyone at the Colts.

For children just starting out, we recommend Ford Aussie Hoops, Basketball Australia’s introductory program. It’s a fun, non-competitive way to learn the fundamentals of basketball, build confidence and develop a love of the game.

Ready for Team Basketball?
The Colts offer domestic competition teams from Under 8 through to Under 21, welcoming players of all abilities, from complete beginners through to experienced representative players looking to play with friends.

How It Works
Joining the Colts is easy.
1. Register your interest
Complete our online form and tell us a little about your child.
2. We’ll find the right team
Our volunteer age group coordinators will discuss team availability and recommend the most suitable team based on your child’s age and experience.
3. Complete your registration
Once a place has been confirmed, your team’s Team Manager will send you a PlayHQ registration link.
4. Hit the court!
Meet your coach, teammates and start playing.

Season Information
The Colts offer both Summer and Winter domestic competitions for players from Under 8 through to Under 21.
Our younger teams compete in the Westgate Basketball Association, while some of our older teams compete in the Altona Basketball Association, ensuring players have access to competitive basketball across all age groups.
Players typically:
- Train once a week.
- Play one game each Saturday (or Friday night for Under 8s).
Training is held at local venues including Kensington Recreation Centre, North Melbourne Recreation Centre, Flemington Primary School and St Brendan’s Primary School.
Frequently Asked Questions
My child has never played basketball before. Is that okay?
Absolutely. Many of our players join with no previous experience. Our coaches create a supportive environment where beginners can learn the game while having fun.
Can friends play together?
Where possible, yes. We’ll always do our best to place friends together, provided there are suitable vacancies and it works with team numbers.
What equipment is needed?
Initially, comfortable sports clothing and runners are all that’s required. Once your child has been placed in a team, you’ll be provided a Colts playing uniform.
How much does it cost?
Season fees vary depending on the age group and include Basketball Victoria registration, association fees and club fees. Current pricing will be provided when a team position is offered.
